The pubs:
-2: The Oxford, Whitworth Park Beer is not the cheapest, but not bad prices. Food is fancy and a little on the steep side, but quite good.
-1: KroBar Just opposite the Union on Oxford Road. Quite expensive, but nice beer. Good outside seating if the weather is nice, but has a tendency to be packed if it is sunny. Recent addition to the Warped Pub Crawl. Die-hard hangers-on meet here during the holidays, poor mad fools.
0: The Solem Bar Manchester University Student Union The meeting place of warped since the Serpent bar was closed and moved downstairs and renamed to the Solem. So it's the same place.. just with a different name, and in a different place. Ok? No longer serves Newcastle Brown Ale, or much in the way of decent beer. But it's cheap, and easy to get to for most people, so we still meet there for 8pm on a Monday night.
1. The Burlington Bar Outside John Rylands Library Warped's home away from... well, nowhere. Serves much better beer than the Solem, and on occasion has been known to be quiet enough that members can hear each other speak. Great bar staff (Ed: Hi Ange!) and what's probably the cheapest pool table in all of Christendom.
2: Jabez Clegg Known to some as 'The Clegg' and others as 'That Shithole'. Server a wider range of beer, for not much more money, but tends to be loud and filled with medics, which is enough to put anyone off. Part of the Warped Pub Crawl.
3: The Phoenix Known to many a Computer Science student as 'The Phoe'. The upstairs barman was a very nice bloke who looks puzzled all the time (Ed's Note: he now lives in Ambleside, the poor mad fool). Not bad beer, cheap and good food, especially the 4pm onwards Beer and Burger offer. Get yourself a yellow card to get some money off the beer, well worth it over the course of a year.
4: The Salutation Known to some as 'The Sally'. Not a student pub, but serves damn fine breakfasts from 11 when any self respecting student is just getting out of bed. Beer is slightly more expensive, but the atmosphere is good. Staff are friendly, and there's often some genuine Irish people in there playing music. They have a big screen telly thing, and put the football on sometimes unfortunately.
5: The Footage Known to many as 'The Flea' for reasons you probably have been lectured about if you've ever asked a warped member. Only included here for prosperity, as no one with a shred of self respect goes in here anymore since they shut down the microbrewery which made some decent beer for a good price. User to be on the pub crawl, but has been removed for being crap.
6: The Pub (Yes, that's it's name) Known as 'Scruffys' mainly, because we're lazy gits (and it used to be called "Scruffy Murphy's). Decent range of beer, same sort of prices as the Phoenix, mainly because it's been bought out by 'It's a Scream'. Part of the Warped Pub Crawl.
7:The Sandbar Known to all as 'The Sandbar'. Does a wide range of continental beers and other foreign alcoholic beverages. Unique atmosphere, frequented by many societies. Tends to get quite busy at times, especially if the weather is nice. Part of the Warped Pub Crawl.
8: Harry's Bar Known as 'Harry's' rather unsurprisingly. UMIST's main student bar, good prices, nice grass outside to sit on with beer if the weather is good. Better range of beer than the Solem.
9: The Lass O' Gowrie Known mainly as 'The Lass'. A traditional pub, with genuine smoke stained ceiling. One of Manchester's more famous pubs (so so it says outside ;-) does a nice selection of beer, for not too much money. Definitely a place to visit. Part of the Warped Pub Crawl Route/
10: The Salisbury Down cobbled street next to Oxford Road Station. Also known to some as 'The Sally' which can cause confusion at times. Good selection of beer, but prices tend to be a bit higher here than many places. Best asset is it's jukebox (lots of Classic rock and Metal, so I like it ;-), and pre-Jilly's crowd on the nights that Jilly's is open. Come here for an experience.
11: Jilly's Rockworld Known as 'Jillys' most of the time. Home of Manchester's Metal and rock nights out, a good bet for a Thursday night, as it's only a quid in, and the bottles are cheap till they run out. Infamous for it's Friday night all-nighter, when it stays open till 7am, just when McCapitalist opens it's doors just across the road. Beer is watered and spiked with who-knowns-what, and quite expensive. If you want to get pissed, drink Snakebite-and-Black, like all the hard people do. Don't expect to do anything the next day however.
12: FAB Café Known as 'FAB' by all. Manchester's funkiest bar. Beer is quite expensive but of good quality. Has a Sci-Fi theme, with tons of classic telly and film sci-fi memorabilia, including a Dalek and a Vorlon encounter suit. Open till 2am every night. Plays films and old TV series' on the tellies, don't expect the sound though. Known to have a lax view of copyright laws on occasions, and if you want to see a film a little early, there's a chance this is your place. Sometimes has film nights, with a big screen. Has probably the most interesting job application forms around. End point of the Warped Pub Crawl. Unless we get dragged into 5th avenue by the Pres.
13: Satan's Hollow From the people who brought you FAB Café comes Satan's. Probably the best looking club in the country. Devils heads staring at you from the pillars and with a 10' wide Satan over the DJ's box. Though they seem to have stopped having any sort o Goth night, even though the place was designed for it. Every night (ish) has a 10(or 11) quid door charge, but then a free bar for the entire night. Good if you want to get slaughtered and get there early to make the most of it. Music is generally Dance and Techno with some Indie. Nothing spectacular though.
